Okay, so it's an exaggeration, but whatever. That's a literary device, right? See, my log did teach me something!
I started off my day entering my 30th hour working on my log and I wasn't much closer than I'd been 20 hours earlier. I was tired, and miserable, and discouraged. I was stressed and I missed my friends.
I went to school half way through 5th period. Now, considering I have 6th off you might be asking yourself why I bothered coming at all aside from the fact that I had to turn in that wretched paper I'd been laboring over. And when I got to school I myself was wondering the same thing.
Everyone in photo was busy doing their own thing, everyone was frazzled and bustling around the classroom in a flurry. I was so emotionally drained from the past three days I couldn't do much. I was so stressed I couldn't even talk. I just shrunk back and tried to avoid conversation.
Of course that wasn't going to fly with Sarah. We studied (but really now, how much do any of us really learn when we're studying?) gov for a while, but wound up getting distracted and off topic.
Last time I was having a really shitty day James tried to draw a happy face on my hand and I realize he was just trying to make me feel better but at the time I was not having it. Today I just let him draw it, trying to stop him wasn't worth the effort. And what do you know? It made me feel better. Like, a lot better. Shoot, I'm looking at it and smiling right now.
During 6th I took my log quiz and was absolutely the happiest person alive when I saw the questions. Last log quiz I'd read books dealing with religion and the questions had to do with absolute truth. This time I read some feminist works. One, "The Awakening" deals with the main character's self-realization as a woman, as an individual, and as an artist. The first log question? What would the author give the main character for Christmas? ART SUPPLIES!!! Easy as cake. I also saw Katherine in the library. She didn't probe about where I've been, she didn't jump on me, she just gave me a huge hug. Exactly what I needed.
I ran into Kelda on my way to turn in my quiz. We walked around for a while and headed over to gov. I opened the door and was swarmed with hugs and smiles. Christina, Angie, Jessica, and Jessie were all there visiting.
My mom called pretty last-minute and told me I had an appointment to get the H1N1 vaccine and the seasonal flu shot. My arms hurt like none other (which I've never had before) but at least I won't get swine flu! Then, my mom and I spent an hour and a half at an Asian fish market buying crazy ingredients for some sauce she's trying to make. We went up and down the aisles trying to find someone who spoke English to help us find the most exotic things. Eventually we found everything we needed and got home.
My mom made a bunch of delicious cookies from some crazy recipe she found in the back of a drawer she was cleaning out. I don't know what's up with her lately but she's on a cooking spree of some kind. Baking cookies and making insane fish oil sauces, I'm anxious but simultaneously afraid to find out what's next.
So, after some serious deep breathing I started my bio homework. I finally am beginning to understand what's going on! A miracle if you ask me. But if that's not enough of a miracle Cara called me with the best stories I've heard in so, so long.
She told me how today in the ED a boy came in who'd been hit by a car. Fortunately that a man nearby called 911. After the boy was taken back the man come into the ED and talked to the nurse. He explained who he was and asked to see the boy's mother. The nurse showed him to the room where the mother was hysterical and absolutely bawling her eyes out. The man walked over to the woman, who was visibly poor, and looked at her. He took her hand and said "I don't know anything about you and you don't know anything about me, but you need this more than I do. I'll be praying for you" and placed a $100 bill in her hand and walked out.
The second story she told me was about a nurse at the hospital who was really low on cash. Low to the point that she could not afford groceries. The hospital gave her a $100 gift card for Vons. Knowing she only had $100 to buy a month of groceries she was very particular and bought only what she needed. But when she got to the register the card wouldn't go through. For an instant she wondered what she would do for food for the next month. But then the cashier, realizing the situation, rang up the groceries free of charge.
The world needs more people like them.
Today my faith in people and in God was renewed.
Oh, and another FANTASTIC, AMAZING, AND WONDERFULLY HAPPY thing happened today. But I'm not allowed to tell you about it yet. ;)

I'm sorry you had a terrible morning, but I'm so glad your day ended well. :)
As for me... I'll be up for a while... still have to do my log, and a rather unbelievably large amount of other homework to do... why DO they always somehow pile up together like this? Sigh...
Anyways, see you tomorrow. ^^
OMG I hope you were accepted to Brown. :D
